Meningococcal Infection
Six cases were notified during the year, of which five were
confirmed.
Ophthalmia neonatorum
This is an acute inflammatory condition of the eye which sometimes
occurs in newborn babies and three cases were notified
during the year.
Acute Influenzal Pneumonia and Acute Primary Pneumonia
These are the notifiable forms of pneumonia and 63 cases of
the latter type were notified in 1966.
Poliomyelitis
One case of suspected poliomyelitis was investigated but the
diagnosis was not confirmed.
Sonne Dysentery
A total of 107 cases were confirmed during the year compared
with 263 for 1965, but a great many other cases of suspected
dysentery were investigated before the provisional diagnosis was
eliminated by bacteriological examination.
Seventy-four of the cases were single unrelated cases and there
were minor outbreaks at two day nurseries involving 18 cases
at one and 15 cases at another.
Tuberculosis

The total number of new cases which came to the notice of the Department during 1966 was 221, the sources of information being as follows:—

The number of deaths certified as due to various forms of
tuberculosis was 18.
