Infantile Mortality
There were 104 deaths of children under one year giving an infant
mortality rate of 19.5 per 1,000 live births. This compares with a rate
of 19 for 1958 and 15 for 1957.
For the ten years ended 1949 the average infant mortality rate was
37 while for the ten year period ending 1959, the average rate was 20.
Maternal Mortality
Three deaths occurred from accidents and diseases of pregnancy
or child-birth.
This is equivalent to a rate of 0.55 per 1,000 live and still-births.
