Deaths
The number of registered deaths which took place in the Borough
during the year was 3,529 but 415 of these did not belong to the
Borough, while 1,857 Borough residents died outside the Borough.
The corrected number of deaths for the Borough, after allowing
for these factors, was 4,971, of whom 2,314 were males and 2,657
females.
The crude death-rate for the year was 14.72, compared with
15.57 for 1956, but after taking into account the area comparability
factor supplied by the Registrar-General, the adjusted rate works
out at 10.15.
Table II shows the total number of registered deaths and the
death-rates for each division based on the approximate population in
each division.
