Milk and Milk Supply.
The following samples were submitted for analysis:—
1,013 of whole new milk.
10 of condensed milk.
Of these 46 were reported against as being adulterated or not up
to standard. 40 contained extraneous water, three were deficient
in milk fat, two contained extraneous water and were also deficient
in milk fat, and one had an odour of pine oil disinfectant.
In 22 cases Police Court proceedings were taken, and fines of
£16 0s. 0d. with £15 15s. 0d. costs were imposed. In the remaining
24 cases the Public Health Committee after considering the amount
of adulteration and circumstances of sale, decided not to prosecute
the vendors but gave instructions for warning letters to be sent.
174 samples of milk were taken from the early morning delivery
to hospitals in the Borough, ten on delivery to Wandsworth
Prison, and 42 from the milk delivered to the County Council Schools
in the Borough. All these samples were reported as genuine,
