Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Malaria.
Ten cases were notified and one of them died. This man
had had recurrent attacks of malaria and bronchitis which he
contracted abroad while in the Army.
All the ten cases notified were males; four of them contracted
the disease in India, two in Turkey, two in France, one in the Soudan,
and one while serving in the Navy.
All the cases appeared to receive proper treatment.
Dysentery.
Four cases occurred, two being cases of amæbic dysentery,
one of whom died, one case was that of a man who had had slight
attacks since his Army service, and the fourth case died of the
disease in a mental asylum.
Trench Fever.
No cases occurred during the year.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum.
36 cases were notified and the following Table shows the effect
of the disease on the vision according as to whether tne cases were
treated at hospital or at home.
