(b) Determination made of milk fat in Cream sold as " Preserved
Cream " :—
(1) Above 35 per cent 16
(2) Below 35 per cent. —
Total 16
(c) and (d). In each of the 16 samples procured as Preserved
Cream the provisions as to labelling were duly observed.
Thickening substances ... ... ... ... Nil.
Other observations.—All the above-mentioned samples were procured
as informal samples under the Sale of Food and Drugs Acts.
Appeal to the Cow.
In one case proceedings were taken against a cowkeeper for selling
milk deficient in milk fat to the extent of 7 per cent. The defendant
stated that the deficiency was due to the interval of milking. This
was tested and found correct. The summons was dismissed on
payment of costs, the defendant promising to regulate the interval
of milking more evenly.
Section 4, Milk and Dairies (Amendment) Act, 1922.
Cases of contravention of this Section were dealt with under the
Sale of Food and Drugs Acts.
Meat.
There are no public abattoirs in the Borough, and the Sanitary
Inspectors periodically inspect the slaughterhouses and arrange as
far as possible to be there on the days that slaughtering of animals
takes place.
122 inspections of the 10 slaughterhouses were made during the
year, and 2,338 carcases were examined by the Inspectors.
