In all the deaths under one year from Diarrhoea and Enteritis,
special inquiries were made, and the following Tables show the
nature of the food given.

Of the total of 242 children who died from these diseases
where the exact nature of the food given was ascertained, only
18, or 7.4 per cent., were nursed by the mother without the addition
of any other food, and of these 10 died in the first three months.
In 121, or 50 per cent., cows' milk, either alone or with cordensed
milk or farinaceous food, was given ; in 88 or 363 per cent.,
condensed milk only, or condensed milk and farinaceous food was
given; while in six or 2.4 per cent, farinaceous or patent foods only
was given. In 14 cases, from various causes, no information could
be obtained.
