Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Scarlet Fever.
869 cases of Scarlet Fever were notified during the year,
compared with 687 in 1910, 987 in 1909, and 1,232 in 1908.
170 of these were in Clapham, 49 in Putney, 219 in Streatham,
125 in Tooting, and 306 in Wandsworth.
725 or 83.5 per cent, of these cases were removed to the hospital
where nine died, and 144 or 16.5 per cent, were treated at home
with one death.
The total number of deaths was 10, of which one was in
Clapham, two in Putney, four in Streatham, two in Tooting, and
one in Wandsworth.
The death-rate per 1,000 population was .03, compared with
.04 in 1910.
The percentage of cases removed to hospital, viz.: 83.5, is
slightly lower than in 1910, when it was 84 per cent.
The case mortality was 1.15 per cent., compared with 1.77
in 1910, 1.42 in 1909, and 1.7 in 1908, and is the lowest on record.
The mortality among cases removed to hospital was 1.24 per
cent., compared with 1.6 in 1910, and among those treated at
home .69 per cent., compared with .57 in 1909. The mortality
among the home-treated cases was thus much lower than among
those cases treated in hospital.
The following Table shows the rate of notified cases per 1,000
persons living for each sub-district and for the whole Borough for
the year and the three previous years, as well as the corresponding
rates for the whole of London.
