Council agreed to tarpave and maintain in future at its own
expense the part of the path within this Borough. The paving
works in question have now been executed.
Unemployment.
83. During the past year the following works, upon which
unemployed workmen were engaged, were carried
out in conjunction with the Central (Unemployed)

The expense of the materials, skilled labour, and supervision
was borne by the Borough Council. The Borough Council also,
at the request of the Local Government Board, made a contribution
of £100 towards the cost of the unskilled labour in
connection with the work carried out at the old Garratt Lane slop
shoot. The unskilled labour employed upon the three schemes
was provided by the Central Body and, with the exception of the
£100 mentioned above, the cost thereof borne by that Body. The
London County Council surrendered the strips of Tooting
Common required for the Tooting Bec Road improvement.
84. In connection with the work at the old Garratt Lane
(Tooting Grove) slop shoot, the Borough Council arranged for the
