Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Owing- to the number of peripatetic milk vendors residing
outside the Borough, and who frequent chiefly the sub-district of
Tooting, it was necessary to take a large proportion of samples
in that sub-district during the year.

Milk.
In all, 591 samples of milk and two of cream were taken. 44
of the samples of the milk and one of the cream, or 7.5 per cent.
were found to be adulterated. Of the total 593, 540 were samples
purchased by the Inspector, of which 40 or 7.4 per cent, were
adulterated, while there were purchased by his deputy 53, of
which five or 9.4 per cent. were adulterated.
The one sample of cream which was found to be adulterated
contained 20 grains of crystallised boric acid per pound. In this
case proceedings were taken and a fine of 20s. was inflicted with
12 s. 6d. costs.
