Of these 170 births 106 were illegitimate, seven belonging to
Clapham, four to Putney, 13 to Streatham, 10 to Tooting, 25 to
Wandsworth, 41 to Battersea, and eight to other places.
In the Borough, excluding the Workhouse, 128 illegitimate
births occurred, 24 in Clapham, 11 in Putney, 42 in Streatham, 16
in Tooting, and 35 in Wandsworth.
The total number of illegitimate births was 185, 31 of which
belonged to Clapham, 15 to Putney, 55 to Streatham, 26 to
Tooting, and 58 to Wandsworth, compared with 175 in 1909, and
177 in 1908.
The percentage of illegitimate births to total births was 2.65,
compared with 2.50 in 1909, 2.41 in 1908, 2.68 in 1907, and 3.5
for the whole of London for 1909.

The following Table shows the percentage of illegitimate births to total births for each sub-district and for the whole Borough for the year, and for the three previous years.

Notification of Births Act.
In October, 1909, the Local Government Board made an
order declaring the above Act in force in the Borough from and
after the 30th November, 1909.
