121
Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Of the total number, viz.:—432, 230 have died, 122 removed
to other districts, 23 were stated to have recovered, six were stated
after inquiry not to be suffering from Consumption, in 31 cases no
inquiries were made, leaving 20 cases still living at the close of
1908.
For statistical purposes it is unsatisfactory that the number
of removals was so large, but in the majority of these cases it was
impossible to ascertain the address to which the patient had gone.
During the current year this will to a large extent be obviated,
as the system of notification in force by District Medical Officers
and Medical Officers of Poor Law Institutions, in combination
with the notification of change of address by the Relieving Officer
'will, it is hoped, diminish the numbers under this heading.

As in previous years these cases are all visited by the female
Sanitary Inspectors who have definite instructions as to the advice
to be given. The pamphlet which has been in use since 1903 is
always left and in many cases is much appreciated.
