Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
(11.) A. W., aged 13, notified on the 7th October. Had
winkles frequently previous to the appearance of the first
symptoms.
In only two cases had any of the members of the patients'
family previously had an attack of Enteric Fever, but so long a
period had elapsed that it was not considered necessary to make
any further investigations.
Cases of Mistaken Diagnosis.
In no cases (44 of Scarlet Fever, 54 of Diphtheria, and 12 of
Enteric Fever), information was received from the Metropolitan
Asylums Board's Hospitals that the patients were not suffering
from the disease notified or any other notifiable disease, compared
with 111 in 1907, 93 in 1906, 97 in 1905, and 94 in 1904.
Of the 1,584 cases removed to hospital, in no or 6.9 per cent,
the diagnosis was incorrect, compared with 6.5 per cent, in 1907,
6.7 in 1906, 5.2 in 1905, and 10 in 1904.
There has been a marked decrease in the percentage of incorrect
diagnosis in Scarlet Fever, an increase in Diphtheria, and an
increase in Enteric Fever, compared with the previous year.
