The above Table shows that in Wandsworth this percentage is
higher than it has been for the last 10 years.
Scarlet Fever.
1,232 cases of Scarlet Fever were notified during the year,,
compared with 1,330 in 1907, 1,069 in and 1,494 in 1905.
232 of these were in Clapham, 66 in Putney, 270 in Streatham,
218 in Tooting, and 446 in Wandsworth.
1,072 or 87 per cent. of these cases were removed to hospital'
where 19 died, and 160 or 13 per cent. were treated at home with
two deaths.
The total number of deaths was 21, of which four were in
Clapham, two in Putney, five in Streatham, one in Tooting, and
nine in Wandsworth.
The percentage of cases removed to hospital, viz.:—87, is the
highest recorded, as in 1907, 84.8 per cent, were removed; in 1906,
83.8; in 1905, 84.1; in 1904, 81.6; in 1903, 78.1; in 1902, 75; and
in 1901, 70.6 per cent.
The case mortality was 1.7 per cent. compared with 1.65 in
1907, 1.78 in 1906, 1.87 in 1905, and 1.74 in 1904.
The mortality among cases removed to hospital was 1.77 per
cent., compared with 1.77 in 1907, and among those treated at
home 1.25, compared with .99 in 1907. The mortality among the
home treated cases is much lower than among those cases treated'
in hospital, while in 1907 the rates were respectively 1.77 and .99.
