from the uncorrected total population gives approximately the
corrected population, viz.:—310,310, compared with 285,910 in
1905, and 264,200 in 1904.
There are very few Boroughs in the Metropolis where the
increase of population has been so marked, and if the present rate
of increase continues the population of the Borough at the next
Census will be nearly 400,000.
Births.
During the 52 weeks ending the 29th December, 1906, 7,057
births, 3,648 of males and 3,409 of females, were registered, compared
with 6,892 in 1905, 6,917 in 1904, and 6,772 in 1903.
In Table III. is shown the number of births, males and
females, the birth-rate, and the rate of natural increase for each,
sub-district, and for the whole Borough.

In all the sub-districts the birth-rate was lower than in the
previous year. The lowest birth-rate was in Putney, where it
was only 17.12 per 1,000; and the highest in Tooting, viz.:—
35.44 per 1,000.
The actual number of births registered was lower in Clapham,
Putney, and Streatham, and higher in Tooting and Wands-
