Of these 76 occurred in the Hospitals of the Metropolitan Asylums
Board at Tooting, 50 from Scarlet Fever, 20 from Diphtheria, five from
Enteric Fever and one from Diarrhoea. The increase compared with
the previous year is wholly due to the increased number of deaths
from Scarlet Fever. Four deaths occurred in the Middlesex County
Lunatic Asylum—one from Enteric Fever, one from Puerperal Fever
and two from other septic diseases. Two deaths occurred in the
Tooting Bee Asylum, both from Erysipelas ; one from Erysipelas in
Tooting Home ; one from Influenza in H.M. Prison ; three from
Influenza in the Hospital for Incurables ; one from Diarrhoea in St.
Anne's Home ; and one from Diarrhoea in other places not institutions.
Of the total deaths from zymotic diseases 48 occurred in the
Fever Hospitals in Tooting—one from Measles, 19 from Scarlet Fever,
one from Influenza, 19 from Diphtheria, six from Enteric Fever, and
two from other septic diseases.
Table XXVI. shows the death-rate from these diseases for the
whole Borough and for each sub-district for the year 1905, as well as
for the ten previous years. The rate above or below the decennial
average is also shown.
