Table LXII. shows the number of factories, workshops, domestic
workshops, and workplaces on the register at the close of 1903, the
number removed from, the number added during 1904, and the
number on the register at the end of 1904. The number of workrooms
in workshops is also shown.
The factories and workshops are divided into dressmakers' and
milliners' premises, laundries, and miscellaneous premises ; the workplaces
are divided only into laundries and miscellaneous premises.
Of the total number of factories where women are employed, 61
are laundries and 11 other factories, while of the total workshops,
viz.:-476, 310 are dressmakers and milliners, 130 laundries, and 36
other workshops.
The total number of workplaces on the register is 398, of which
160 are laundries, 238 miscellaneous premises, chiefly dressmakers
and milliners.
Table LXIII. shows the nature of the trades carried on in the
workshops inspected.
