The tables of house-to-house inspections which follow show the
names of the streets and the number of houses inspected, the number
of houses in which defects were found, the percentage of defects to
houses inspected, as well as the number of families living in one, two,
three and four rooms and upwards.
In 3,453 out of the total of 6,440 houses inspected, or 53.61 per
cent., some sanitary defect, necessitating the service of an intimation
notice, was found.
The highest percentage was in the Balham Ward, where the percentage
was 76.07 and the lowest in Southfield Ward, where the
percentage was only 27.01. The next lowest was in Springfield,
where the percentage was 37.46.
The following table, which is prepared from the figures given in
the summary, shows the percentage to total number of families of
those living in one, two, three or four rooms and upwards, in the
separate wards and in the whole Borough.

Clapham North has the highest percentage of families living in
one room, and Springfield the lowest.
Clapham North had also the highest percentage of families living
in four rooms and upwards, while Streatham had the lowest.
In the Borough, out of the total number of families, viz.:—8,807,
whose houses were inspected, 476 or 5.4 per cent, lived in one room.
