Report of the Medical Officer of Health. 61
Bacteriological Examinations.
During the year 121 bacteriological examinations were made at
the Lister Institute, compared with 125 in 1903, 78 in 1902, and 66 in
1901.
The following Table shows the number in the separate subdistricts
and for the whole Borough, also the disease for which
examination was made and the result of such examination : —
Clapham | Putney. | Streatham. | Tooting. | Wandsworth. | Whole Borough. | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Diphtheria. | ||||||
Negative | 4 | 6 | 39 | 2 | 38 | 89 |
Positive | 1 | 2 | 10 | ... | 10 | 23 |
Enteric Fever. | ||||||
Negative | ... | 3 | ... | ... | 5 | 8 |
Positive | ... | ... | ... | ... | 1 | 1 |
Totals | 5 | 11 | 49 | 2 | 54 | 121 |
The above shows that there was an increase in the number of
examinations for the bacillus of Diphtheria, but that there was a
decrease in the number of examinations in suspected cases of Enteric
Fever.
In 23 out of 112 examinations for the Diphtheria bacillus the
result was positive, while in only one out of nine examinations of
blood in suspected cases of Enteric fever was the Widal re-action
obtained.
Puerperal Fever.
14 cases of Puerperal fever were notified, compared with 13 in
1903, and 21 in 1902.
