Sanitation.
Table XVI. in the geneial report shows in
tabular form the work carried, out by the
sanitary inspectors during the year.
3,298 houses and premises were inspected during
the year, compared with 3,035 in 1899, 3,391 in 1898,
and 4,597 in 1897.
The total number of houses inspected in house-tohouse
inspection was 1,453, an increase of 322 compared
with last year, and of 115 compared with 1898.
The following Table shows the number of houses
inspected in each street, the number of houses in which
sanitary defects were found, aud the percentage of
defects to houses inspected. The number of families
living in one room, two rooms, three rooms, and four
rooms and upwards, is also given.
The percentage of defects to houses inspected was
57.6, as compared with 45.04 in 1899.
The number of families living in one room was
greatest in Wardley Street, Warple Way, and Point
Pleasant, but the great majority of houses inspected
were occupied by families who rented four rooms and
upwards.
