During the year there were 170 deaths of
persons over 70 years of age. Of these 74
were males and 96 females, a decrease of two males and
26 females, compared with the previous year.
The following Table shows the number of these
deaths at different quinquennial periods:—

Table XIV. shows the percentage to total deaths, as
well as to diseases of the zymotic class, for the year, and
also for the preceding ten years, according to social
position.
The number of deaths among the industrial and
labouring classes shows a decided increase, compared
with the decennial average, but from zymotic diseases
this increase is only very slight. The increase in the
number of deaths from zymotic diseases in the middle
and trading classes was chiefly due to Influenza.
