ROAD WATERING.

The details of road watering during the past year are set forth in the following tabular statement:—

‡ Including private roads on Drew's estate, ½ mile ill length, which are watered
under agreement for the sum of £30 per annum, and about 1/8th mile of private
road on the Artisans estate watered under agreement for the sum of £8.
In the Parish of Clapham all the water was obtained
by meter; 3,879,000 gallons at 9d. per 1,000 gallons
from the Lambeth Water Works Company, and
5,717,000 gallons at 8½. per 1,000 gallons from the
Southwark and Vauxhall Water Company. The cost
of the water, including the hire of meters and standposts,
amounted to £371 6s. 11d., being equal to
£12 Is. 2d. per mile of road watered. The total cost
of road watering amounted to £63 19s. 1d. per mile.
In the Parish of Putney, the cost of road watering
was £37 4s. 9d. per mile, of which sum £12 8s. 9d.
was paid to the water companies for the supply of
water and hire of meters. The quantity of water used
was about 11,022,000 gallons.
