increase.
The rate of natural increase was equal to 13.1
per 1,000 of the population, the excess of
births over deaths numbering 764, of which 3.0 were
males and 384 females.
Table I. gives the number of births and deaths,
birth-rates and death-rates, and rates of natural increase
during the past thirteen years.

institutions numbered 106, compared
with 93 during the previous year
Of the deaths recorded 49 were of males, and 57 of
females.
Diphtheria contributed largely to the deaths from
Zymotic Diseases.
In the Wandsworth and Clapham Union Institutions
