POPULATION.
The 1921 census figure for the population of the Borough was
52,167, that for 1931 was 51,215, showing a loss of population of
952 persons during the decade.
The Registrar-General's estimate of population for the middle
of 1932 is 51,680, and this figure has been used in this report in
calculating the Birth and Death rates.
BIRTHS.
The total number of births registered in the Borough was 502.
and of these 91 were transferred to other districts, as the permanent
addresses of the parents were outside this Borough. Similarly
365 births occurring outside the Borough, in maternity hospitals,
etc., were transferred to Stoke Newington, making a total of 776
belonging to this Borough. Of these 411 were males and 365 were
females. This figure gives a birth rate of 15.0 per 1,000 of the
estimated population, as compared with 15.2 for the year 1931.
