* N.B.—The birth-rate is calculated upon the special Borough populations estimated respectively for that purpose by the
Registrar-General for the year 1916, and 1917, viz., 308,702, and 303,245, estimates of the total population based on the
assumption that the ratio between the total and the civilian population is the same in the Borough of Lambeth as in England
and Wales as a whole, the total population of England and Wales for this purpose having been calculated by adding to the
published estimate for 1914 the natural increases up to the middle of the years 1916 and 1917.
