Notification of Births
The following table shows the births notified during the year compared
with previous years. The percentage of hospital confinements
rose to 88.9% during 1955, thus continuing the steady increase noted
in previous years.

Ante-natal Clinics
The only change made in clinic sessions during the year was a reduction
at The Chestnuts Centre from five to four sessions a week owing
to a fall in demand. As a consequence there was a fractional increase
in the average attendance throughout the Area to 15.7 per session.
The total number of new patients who attended ante-natal clinics
during the year was 2,003, which is the lowest for many years.
The following table gives details of attendances at all clinics in the
Area:—
