HOME HELPS.
The Hornsey Home Helps Society, started in 1980 by
members of the Voluntary Committees of the Centres, continued
its work during the year (Hon. Secretary: Mrs. Inward,
99, Peniberton Boad, N.4).
THE NATIONAL MILK SCHEME.
The distribution of milk to expectant and nursing mothers
and children under five was transferred from the Health Department
to the local Food Control Office in 1940. This work,
together with the distribution of fruit juices and cod liver oil,
is carried out by Food Control in close co-operation with the
Maternity Centres, and is an extremely important factor in
maintaining the health of mothers, babies and young children.
