Since the outbreak of war the Dental Clinic for Mothers
has been held by Mr. Creeke at his private surgery. Children
under five have received attention at the School Clinic from the
School Dental Surgeon, Miss W. Hunt.
ORTHOPÆDICS.
The Surgeon attends monthly and the Masseuse four times
weekly at the School Clinic for the treatment of elementary
school children and children under five years.
The following are the statistics for the year for children
under five:—

Three children were admitted during the year to the Country
Branch of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore
for in-patient treatment.
The cost to the Maternity and Child Welfare Committee was
£69 3s. 10d. for the treatment of children under five years for
the year to 31st March, 1941.
VOLUNTARY COMMITTEES.
Valuable assistance to mothers and children attending the
Centres has been rendered by the Voluntary Committees during
the year in special cases requiring surgical boots, convalescent
homes and other forms of treatment.
CHILD LIFE PROTECTION.
PUBLIC HEALTH ACT, 1936 (Secs. 206—220).
Regular visits are paid by the Health Visitors to the homes
of foster-mothers in their respective areas, and foster-mothers
are encouraged to bring the children to the centres for periodical
medical examination.
The number of requests for foster-mothers is much in excess
of the number available and requests are often received from
Societies and Authorities outside the Borough.
