The number of lodging-houses on the register at the end of
the year was 552.
Fifty-eight houses have been dealt with under these Bye-laws during the year and the following works carried out:— Byelaw.

SHOPS ACTS, 1912-1936.
In addition to the Shops Acts of 1912, 1913, 1928 and 1934,
three new Shops Acts came into operation during the year,
namely, The Shops Act, 1936, which applies to premises and
places where the business of lending books or periodicals is carried
on. Date of operation from 1st January, 1937. The Retail Meat
Dealers Shops (Sunday Closing) Act, 1936. Date of operation
from 1st January, 1937. The Shops (Sunday Trading Restriction)
Act, 1936. Date of operation from 1st May, 1937.
The following are the particulars of action taken during the year under the provisions of the Shops Act, 1934, relating to ventilation and temperature of shops and to sanitary conveniences : —

One thousand four hundred and forty-four visits have been
paid to shops during week-days and 652 during Sundays, and,
apart from a number of minor infringements, which were dealt
with, the provisions of the Shops Acts, 1912-36, have, generally
speaking, been well observed.
