HOUSING.
Housing Act. 1935.—Overcrowding Survey.
The preliminary overcrowding survey (Form A) was commenced
at the end of December, 1935, and was completed on the
21st March, 1666.
A temporary staff of 17 men was engaged on the work for
varying periods, working in all an aggregate of 17 weeks.
The estimate of this preliminary survey work was given as
£.300 and the actual cost was £2293 4s. 4d.. including cards, filing
cabinets and printing (£53 12s. 3d.).
11,120 houses, which is almost exactly 50 per cent. of the
inhabited houses in the Borough, were visited by the
Enumerators, and only 188 families in 177 houses were found
to be overcrowded. 30 of the 177 houses were on the Council's
Housing Estates. The proportion of overcrowded houses to
those enumerated is therefore 106 per cent.

The following tables give in detail the result of the survey:—
