"The table shows the number of suppurating ears treated
at the Clinic and gives information as to the nature of the disease
found to be responsible, and also gives a summary of the results of
treatment.
The last column, marked 'hospital,' shows the number
of ears which need operation or which have already been operated
upon. A number of children in whom an operation on the
ear was desirable have attended the Clinic but have not been
sent to hospital. The reason is that operation does not always
hold out a reasonable prospect of the discharge being cured and
the deafness not being increased. After the operation has been
performed and the child allowed to return home a long
attendance as an out-patient is necessary. Parents in poor
circumstances and with a large or a young family cannot keep
