There were four deaths due to child-birth, the maternal
mortality rate being 33 per 1,000 births.
There were 4 cases of puerperal fever, all of which went to
hospital, and 15 cases of puerperal pyrexia, 13 being treated in
hospital.
Midwifery.
The Municipal Midwife attended 144 births. A reduction
of her fee was made in 30 necessitous cases. Nine hundred and
eighty births have been attended by the Midwife since the
appointmnt was first made in 1922.
Summonses were taken out against defaulters of payment of
the Midwife's fee and the magistrate made an order in each case.
X-Ray Treatment.
One expectant mother was sent to University College
Hospital from the Ante-Natal Clinic for examination.
Mii,k—Mothersand Children Order.
Five hundred and twenty-two applications for milk under
this Order were granted during the year.
In March the age of children eligible for milk under the
Order was increased from 3 to 5 years.
