Ambulances.—The Borough Ambulance is kept at the
Central Fire Station under the control of the Borough Engineer
and Surveyor, and during the year has been used for the conveyance
of 821 persons on 804 occasions, as follows:—166 street
accidents and 638 private and other cases.
The Ambulance for the medical services of the Borough,
which is used mainly for the conveyance of school children, has
covered 13,482 miles during the year. Owing to the great increase
in the work done by this Ambulance, particularly in the Muswell
Hill School journeys, it was found necessary to replace the
original vehicle, which had run altogether 30,482 miles in four

ambulance body fitted to it at a total cost of £460. The new
motor conveyance has been running since the re-opening of the
schools after the summer holidays.
Mortuary.—During the year 45 bodies were brought to the
mortuary at the Sanitary Depot, Hornsey, and 27 inquests were
held by the Coroner.
