Dairies and Milkshops, numbering 70, and 3 Cowsheds in
the Borough, have been frequently inspected.
In 17 instances contravention of the bye-laws or regulations
have been found, and the matters were at once attended to.
Ice-cream.— There are 74 premises in the Borough from
which ice-cream is sold, and these were frequently inspected
during the summer.
Rag Flock Act.— Twenty-five inspections have been made
of premises where Flock is used, and no contravention of the Act
has been found.
Petroleum Stores.— There are 32 Petroleum Stores on tiie
Register, and 60 inspections were made during the year.
Nuisances, Drainage, etc.— Two hundred and thirty-one
complaints have been received during the year, classified as
follows:—
Obstructed or defective drains 48
Defective sanitary fittings 22
Dirty condition of premises 15
Dampness of premises 16
Water in basement 5
Accumulation of refuse 27
Overcrowding 7
Dirty condition of drinking water cistern 8
Nuisances caused by the keeping of fowls, etc. 12

At two hundred and fifty-seven premises the drains have been
tested, examined, exposed, etc.—

House-to-house inspection and other causes 160
The usual intimations were issued, and where necessary
statutory notices served.
In seventy-four instances the drains, etc., were re-constructed
entirely, and in the others the defects found were remedied and
the nuisances abated.
