This table shews that the older parts of the district near the
London boundary have undergone little change in population,
except for the increase made by Stroud Green this year. The
increase in the more recently developed parts of the Borough has
been very great, and the district as a whole has increased its
population by over 30 per cent. in 9¼ years.
Density of Population.—With the growth of the population
of the Borough, the number of persons per acre has increased
from 25 at the time of the 1901 Census to 32'9 at the middle of
1910. At the middle of 1909 the density was 321 persons per
acre.
North Haringey remains much the most thickly-populated
Ward, with 82 persons per acre, though East and West Hornsey
are gradually creeping up near this figure. Crouch End, with 16
persons per acre, is at the other extreme.
Muswell Hill, in spite of its rapid growth, has still only 20
persons per acre, and Highgate 19.
The following table shews the density of population for each
Ward:—
