Infantile Mortality.—The infantile mortality for 1905 is
an extremely low one, and is, in fact, the lowest ever recorded in
Hornsey.
The infantile deaths amount to less than one-sixth of the total
deaths.
If we examine the causes of death among infants, we find that
34 were due to premature birth or congenital defects and 2 to
accident, leaving 70 deaths attributable to disease arising from
post-natal causes. Probably many of these deaths are in great
part due to ante-natal conditions, leading to feeble vitality in the
infants, for which in this country at least no remedy in the shape
of municipal action has been adopted.
