A spot map has been prepared (but is not reproduced here)
locating all the deaths from Cancer in the Borough during the last
5 years. No light is thrown on the question of the possibility of
house infection, but the figures are too small to allow of a reliable
conclusion being drawn.
There were only 3 cases out of 274 where 2 deaths had occurred
in the same house, and this small number could be accounted for
by mere coincidence.
There has been no new evidence brought forward in favour of
the theory of the infectious character of the disease, and it cannot
be said that we know anything further as to its causation.
As a possible preventive measure, disinfection is carried out at
houses where a death from Cancer has occurred, whenever a request
is received that this should be done.
Deaths from Zymotic Diseases.—The Zymotic death-rate
is the total number of deaths per 1,000 persons living from the
seven principal Zymotic diseases, viz.:—Small Pox, Measles,
Scarlet Fever, Diphtheria, Enteric Fever, Whooping Cough and
Diarrhoea. The following table gives the deaths from these causes
during 1905 and preceding years:--
