The Casual Wards were taken over by the Metropolitan Asylums Board on
the 1st April, 1912, and new arrangements for the cleansing of persons were
considered by the Public Health Committee.
The Coroner's Court, which used to be on the ground floor of the Public
Mortuary was transferred to the Court Room on the completion of the new
Council Offices in 1908.
Various plans and suggestions for the alteration of the Mortuary to include
a Cleansing Station for men and women were submitted to the Public Health
Committee, and the alterations and improvements were completed by May, 1913.
Under the London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1907, powers are
given to that Council for the compulsory cleansing of verminous children
attending any of the Council's schools, and verminous inmates of any common
lodging house. The latter, however, are cleansed at our Cleansing Station.
