5
DEATHS.
The death-rate during the past year in the district has been
18.0 per 1000 of the population. There has been a total of 5116
deaths recorded in the parish, of which 2521 were males and 2595
females. Of the total deaths, 2058 cases occurred in the western
and 3058 in the eastern division of the district.
The total number of deaths this year compares favourably with
the numbers of the last three years. Notwithstanding the increase
of population the actual number has been less than in any year
since 1877, and the death-rate of 18.0 per 1000 is the lowest for
many years.
