BIRTHS.
The number of births registered during the year was 8,065, of whom
4,447 were males and 4,218 females, as compared with an average of 9,066
in the preceding ten years. These represented a birth-rate of 24.35 per 1,000
inhabitants, as against a decennial rate of 20.6; thus there was a decrease of
401 in the number of births, and of 2.3 in the birth-rate.
