SHELTER HOUSE.
The Shelter House was used for various purposes during the year, amongst
which were the following:—
1st. To house persons whose homes were undergoing disinfection.
2nd. To cleanse verminous persons in its slipper baths under the
provisions of the Verminous Persons Act.
3rd. To bathe verminous school children.
4th. To bathe and cleanse midwives after attendance on cases of
Puerperal Fever.
Only three families, consisting altogether of 13 persons, used the Shelter
House while their homes were being disinfected.
As many as 1,202 children attending the London County Council Schools
were bathed and cleansed and their clothing disinfected. Many of the children
attended more than once, and are included in the return given below.
Eight persons (men) were cleansed under the Verminous Persons Act, 1897
Sixteen midwives were disinfected after attendance on cases of Puerperal
Fever.
