Restaurants and kitchens where food is prepared.—There
were 660 on the register, containing 689 separate rooms. 303 inspections
were made, in the course of which it was found that out of 13 hotel and
restaurant Kitchens 2 were in an unsatisfactory state, and that 36 out of 138
coffee and dining rooms were in a similar condition. Out of 39 refreshment
rooms examined 10 were unsatisfactory, while of the 36 fried fish shops visited
15 were in a like state. Provision dealers premises, too, were in 8 instances
found to be uncleanly. A full statement of the work of the inspector, Miss
Daniell, of these places is given in her report.
Workshops notified to H.M. Inspector.—Under the provisions of
Section 133 of the Factory and Workshop Act, it is required that the Medical
Officer of Health, when he becomes aware that any woman, young child, or
person is employed in a workshop, shall forthwith send notice to H.M. Inspector
of Factories, and consequently ST workshops were reported during the year.
