Among those vendors against whom there are several convictions, the
latter style of sampling shows an exceptionally high percentage of adulteration,
and it would seem that there is a tendency in several cases to confine their
fraudulent practices to young children.
Margarine.—The greater number of margarine samples were purchased
from dairies. Forty-seven samples were examined, 44 of which were genuine,
while 3, or 6.5 per cent. were sold in a manner contravening the Act.
Malt Vinegar.—One sample purchased as malt vinegar was examined
and found to be adulterated.
For comparison, I insert the following table showing the result of the test work since its commencement in 1908:—
ALL SAMPLES.
Year. | No. of Samples. | Declared. | Adulterated. | Percentage of Adulteration. |
---|---|---|---|---|
1908 | 340 | 38 | 47 | 13.8 |
1909 | 471 | 96 | 88 | 187 |
1910 | 633 | 8l | 73 | 11.5 |
1911 | 663 | 10 | 68 | I0.2 |
2,107 | 225 | 276 | 13.55 |

Your obedient Servant,
