The contents of this Table are worthy of close study, for they show us at
what ages the population of the borough increased or decreased during the
decennial period 1901-1910, To many persons the figures will no doubt come
as a revelation, because they naturally thought, as there was a decrease in
the number of inhabitants, that there would also be a decrease at each period
of life, Now, nothing of the kind has occurred, for as the Table demonstrates,
there was a decrease at all age periods up to thirty-five years of age, and that
the decrease was common as well to males as females, Thus it is found that
the total decrease from 0-35 years of age was 16,555, of which 7,619 occurred
among males, and 8,936 among females,
On the other hand the figures show that there was an increase in the
number of persons who were over thirty-five, and that such increase occurred
at each age-period, and for each sex, Thus the total increase was 8,967, of
which 4,230 were credited to males and 4,737 to females,
