We have now seen what Islington was when it was a village, and how
it has grown from such a small beginning to be an immense town—with 327,403
inhabitants,
Let us examine the census returns more closely,
Sex Distribution and Ages of the Population at Census—The
returns give 155,901 males and 171,502 females, making a total of 327,403
persons, as compared with 159,290 males, 175,701 females, and 334,991 persons
at the census of 1901, The proportion of males to females is as 100 to 110,
which was also the proportion in 1901,
A return, which the Registrar General has kindly placed at the disposal
of the Public Health Department, shows that the ages of the population, males
