Ages at Death.—The ages of the persons who die from cancer including
malignant diseases are given in the statement set out below. From this it
will appear that during the ten years 1900-1909, in 3,350 deaths, the greater
number occurred at the age periods above 35. Thus between the ages of 35
and 45 there were 344 deaths, or 10.2 per cent. of the total number registered
from these diseases. Between the ages of 45 and 55 there were 723
deaths, or 21.6 percent.; between 55 and 65 there were 958 deaths, or 28.6
per cent., and between 65 and 75 there were 831 deaths, or 24.8 per cent.;
between 75 and 85 there were 300 deaths, or 8.9 per cent. It is, therefore,
very apparent that the most valuable lives in the population, whether among
males or females, are annually carried off.
In the Tables which follow, very full particulars are given as to the prevalence of this disease in the borough, as well as of the death-rates from them at the different age periods; while full details are given of the several parts of the body which it attacked, differentiating between males and females:—
