inspection for many years has taught them that honesty is the best policy,
for although they might escape detection in one or two instances, yet in the
end it was certain.
From the return which is given below it will be seen that there were
37,958 animals slaughtered in the borough in 1910 as contrasted with 38,350
in the preceding year, or a decrease of 392, which was made up as follows:
72 oxen, 6 cows, 9 calves, 303 sheep, 2 goats.
For some years past there has been a very large decrease in the number
of cows killed in the borough: indeed last year there was not one; neither
was there in 1908 or in 1906, while in 1907 only 4 were slaughtered.
