Notifications of Births Act, 1907, which was the instruction of mothers through the
means of Health Visitors.
The number of notifications received during the year was 7,407, of which
number 1,011 were notified by doctors, 3,271 by midwives, and 3,125 by parents
and other persons .
It may be recollected that in 1908, 0,983 such notifications were received,
of which 988 came from medical practitioners, 2,312 from midwives, and 3,683
from parents and other persons.
It is to be regretted that there was a deficiency in the number of notifications
to the amount of 794 births, or 9.68 per cent, of the total number registered
during the year. Of this large number inquiry has shown that in
524 cases the mothers were attended by doctors, in 38 by midwives, and in
12 by other persons In 220 cases no information could be obtained owing
to incorrect addresses, removals, or to the fact that the children had died before
registration .
