BIRTHS
There were 8,201 births registered during the year, which is an increase
of 103 on the return for 1909 It is, therefore, so far satisfactory The
return is, however, less than that which obtained in any of the years from
1901 to 1908 or in any year as far back as 1872 A statement such as this
emphasises the fact that the fertility of the population is not what it used to
