SHELTER HOUSE.
During the year the Shelter House was used by only four families,
pending the disinfection of their homes.
It was also used to give baths to verminous persons, a practice of which
the Medical Officer of Health does not approve, as he is of opinion that
baths which are used for people who come to the shelter house while their
homes are undergoing disinfection should not be used by people afflicted with
vermin. Neither does he approve of the bathing of nurses after attendance
on puerperal fever patients, in baths used by verminous persons or by persons
who might possibly be suffering from an infectious disease. He has long
since pointed out the necessity there is for separate baths. He can, however,
state that every possible precaution is taken to prevent a mishap.
Midwives.— Ten midwives or nurses were afforded baths after attendance
on cases of Puerperal Fever.

Verminous persons cleansed, at the Shelter House under the "Cleansing of Persons Act, 1897."
